The original Monastery of Desierto de las palmas is located on a plain between ravines, about 500 meters from the current monastery. Its construction took place between 1697 and 1733. The venue had a capacity for twenty-religious in its several departments. There are faculty, cisterns, a guesthouse and an episcopal palace whose remains can be seen even today. In 1783 a series of torrential rains and landslides severely damaged the building structure, after which the Discalced Carmelites were forced to leave and seeking a safer location.
